Job Description

Our leading client, based in Castle Donington, are looking for a Sustainability Specialist to join their team to support the team in co-ordinating the reporting around carbon emissions, supporting the business units in implementation of and reporting against their Sustainability Management Plans, and working with members of the Commercial teams to offer added value to clients during the sales and tender process through sustainability related deliverables.

Up to £45k depending on experience. 

Sustainability Specialist – The Role:
  • Working with a broad range of stakeholders, coordinating CSR reporting and carbon management projects for the company, compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements, ensuring the quality, analysis, and processing of collected data.
  • Collaborating with Head Office team in the development of their Group-wide sustainability profile, contributing to shaping and improve sustainable strategy across the group
  • Management of carbon footprint calculations, leading on roadmap action plans and contributing to the evolution of information systems and processes. 
  • Coordinating analysis of sustainability data for management reporting.
  • Working with company leads to develop and maintain dashboard data management system for sustainability reporting.
  • Participating in cross-functional projects to reduce the carbon footprint (energy, mobility, transportation, etc.) in line with Sustainability Roadmap to 2030.
  • Contributing to tender documentation and project planning for new business, and to the development of client focused sustainability offerings.
  • Working together with the Commercial and Marketing & directors to develop an overarching sustainability charter for clients in line with Sustainability Action Plan.
  • Working in close collaboration with Commercial Director and Account Managers, developing client specific sustainability plans; in line with third party sustainability objectives and action plans.
  • In coordination with the Commercial team, developing specific sustainability solutions and attend and present on sustainability at client meetings.
  • Representing the organisation on sustainability activities and initiatives at conferences, debates, round table discussions and sponsor events.
  • Working in close collaboration with SHEQ team on sustainable procurement; developing sustainability charter for suppliers, identifying new sustainability partners in supply chain, measuring delivery against requirement.
Sustainability Specialist – The Candidate:
  • Degree level qualification in business management, engineering or equivalent 3+ years’ experience in a business environment with a strong commercial focus
  • A good understanding of compliance requirements – risks, opportunities etc.
  • A good understanding of governance activities and best practice related to ESG planning, emissions legislation and knowledge of UK, European and UN sustainability frameworks, carbon management certification, and UK Net Zero roadmaps.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong influencing skills, can establish strong and lasting relationships with key partners, internal and external stakeholders, comfortable working in international teams.
  • Demonstrable time management and organisational skills, able to prioritise workload in line with tight deadlines, and work effectively under pressure on multiple projects.
  • Proven experience in analysing and coordinating non-financial data in a corporate environment, consolidating sustainability data, and drafting reports.
  • Excellent proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint Experience of developing close working relationships with commercial colleagues at all levels, media and industry colleagues.
  • Analytical, resilient, passionate and delivery focussed, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Desirable - An understanding of policies including UK Sustainability Disclosure Standards, Powering Up Britain and Ten Point Plan, EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), European Green Deal, and the sustainability and environmental objectives covered in ISO 9001 standards, 14001 and 20121 frameworks would be an advantage.
